In the last devlog, I said even survivors need a night off. The cozy cave update we teased is now live: Off Duty lets you furnish, rearrange and expand your home in the original Beyond Dawn lair.

Some nights you want another expedition. Some nights you want a nicer lamp, a rug that ties the room together, and somewhere to put the things you brought home.

Make the lair your own

Press B anywhere in the Beyond Dawn shelter, or use the Off Duty monitor, to enter Decorate Mode. The old Livery and Quarters posts have been replaced by this single station.

The catalogue includes 118 furniture and accessory designs, each with six finishes. Spend banked scrap on sofas, beds, shelves, lamps, rugs, plants, wall decorations and small personal touches. Your starting furnishings include a sofa, coffee table, rug and planter; existing Quarters bed and fire upgrades carry over as movable items.

You can build a reading corner, arrange a workshop, fill a shelf or put a mug on a table. Small accessories move with the furniture supporting them. Switch lamps on or off and choose warm amber, cool blue or garden lighting for the room.

Room to settle in

The main decorating area is 14 × 16 metres, and you can spend scrap to open four connected chambers: The Longroom, West Grotto, East Studio and Deep Garden. Open The Longroom first, then choose which direction your home grows.

Before buying, Preview chamber shows the full-size room and its entrance. The amber outline marks an unowned preview, so you can explore the space without spending scrap. Buying it opens a real passage you can walk through when you return to the game.

Decorating without the fuss

The editor has a free camera, overhead and cutaway views, rotation and optional grid snapping. Search the catalogue, filter by what you own or can afford, and favourite pieces for later. My items keeps track of both placed furniture and stored copies.

Layout edits support undo and redo. Storing a piece keeps it in your collection, and committed changes save automatically. When you return to first-person play, your arrangement is still there. Placement checks keep the important routes through the lair clear.

Decorating currently uses mouse and keyboard. This housing update belongs to the original Beyond Dawn lair; Wasteland keeps its separate shelter and save.

A more consistent shelter interface

Off Duty and Liminal OS now share more of the Observation Station’s visual style: pixel lettering, pale phosphor text, amber highlights and instrument-like panels.

Liminal OS has a numbered application directory, clearer mission briefings and More below / Back to top controls for longer pages. The decorating screen adds a connected cave plan and totals for open rooms, floor space, placed items and storage.

The refreshed workstation keeps applications and mission briefings easier to scan.

Smaller fixes

  • Keep your discovered routes handy. Known routes is now available in the visor and Liminal OS. Restore or clear a saved route without finding its wall marking again. P controls the route guide; J opens the decoded text.
  • Clearer extraction practice. The practice beacon has a visible beam, floor ring and countdown. Stand in its glow for two seconds to extract automatically, matching the surface game.
  • Faster trips around home. Both Beyond Dawn and Wasteland now use the same 2× shelter sprint boost with Shift or L3.
  • Steadier surfaces. Rendering fixes reduce moving dark patterns on rugs and furnishings and unstable contact shading on flat walls. Lair footer instructions are easier to read, too.

The update is live. Play Beyond Dawn free in your browser, head home and press B to start decorating.

I’d love to see what you make of the space. Share your lair screenshots, or tell me which small comfort you’d like to bring home next.
